The Abbey Theatre has announced that Ruth McGowan has been appointed to the role of Literary and New Work Director, joining the Senior Management Team. Ruth will lead the Literary and New Work Department – nurturing relationships with playwrights and overseeing an approach to dramaturgy for the development of new work, which accommodates a wide range of approaches to the creation of theatre.

As a dramaturg, programmer and producer, Ruth has been championing new work across performance disciplines and building impactful creative partnerships since 2009. Specialising in idea development and talent development, she has supported hundreds of artists to bring their work from the page to the stage.
