February Lucky Dozen Talk

As part of our ongoing ‘Lucky Dozen’ talks for WGI members, playwright and screenwriter Gary Duggan will give a talk on Writing Amber and Creating a TV Drama Series, at 7pm on Thursday, 5 February at the Writers’ GuiId office.

Gary will discuss his work on RTE’s four-part TV drama series Amber and will cover areas such as: developing a new idea; creating a series bible; how to tackle structure; creating credible characters and the challenges of making the transition from writing for theatre to TV.

Gary Duggan is an award-winning playwright and screenwriter. He co-wrote Amber, a major four part drama for RTE/Screenworks. Amber has sold to multiple territories throughout the world (including Netflix in the US and UK) and achieved very high viewing figures in Ireland on RTÉ One and BBC4.

He has also written a number of stage plays that have been performed throughout Ireland and in the UK, Romania, and New York. His first play, Monged, won the Stewart Parker Trust Award in 2006. His latest play, Shibari, premiered at The Abbey Theatre in 2012 as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival. He also writes regularly for the popular Irish soap Fair City and in 2009 he wrote three episodes (and directed one) of Happyslapper, a web drama for RTÉ’s first Storyland initiative.
