But even if you’re just starting out, never forget that your work has value. Real value. You hone your craft and obsess over every word, comma, and ellipsis just to bring joy to others. On a material level, your work generates income. Which is why we have a simple message for you, a maxim you should all live by:

Don’t ever work for free.
Don’t feel pressured to work for free.
Ask for more money than you think you should.
Put your fee in the budget.
KEEP your fee in the budget.
Get paid for your work. Always.
