Zebbies 25 Submissions Window Open

The Writers’ Guild of Ireland are delighted to announce that the submission window for this year’s Zebbie Awards is now open for scripts written by Irish writers, or writers living on the island of Ireland.
If you have a script (ideally, one you’re happy with!) that was produced and first screened, staged, broadcast in Ireland (or was generally available to an Irish audience) in 2024 we’d love you to submit it for consideration.
There are seven categories in the Zebbie Awards, recognising the best scripts across feature film, tv drama, continuing drama, theatre, short film, animation, and audio & radio drama. Previous winners of the Zebbie Awards include Lisa McGee, Colm Bairead, Jody O’Neill & Ray Lawlor.
Best Radio & Audio Drama Script
Best Animation Script
Best Theatre Script
Best Short Film Script
Best Feature Film Script
Best TV Drama Script and
Best Continuing Drama Script
Our submissions portal will be open until Sunday June 1st. All eligible submitted scripts will be read and shortlisted by our expert panels. The three shortlisted scripts in each category will then be voted on by Writers’ Guild of Ireland members.
And our now-legendary Zebbies Awards Event will take place on Wednesday 24th September ‘25 in … of course, the Sugar Club, Dublin 2, hosted by Tara Flynn..
The WGI’s Zebbie Awards – now in their 18th year – have always been about writers and great writing. Named after O.Z (Zebby) Whitehead, these awards continue to hold a significant place in our industry.
WGI Chair, Jennifer Davidson said
I’m delighted to announce that submissions for our 18th Annual Zebbie Awards are now open. Celebrating the very best of Irish writing talent across screen, stage and radio, the Zebbie Awards allow writers to honour our peers, and to recognise the brilliant work that Irish writers create. They are the only Irish Awards for writers, voted on by writers. As we face an uncertain time in our industry, it’s a welcome moment to celebrate the huge creative talent of Irish writers, and to acknowledge the huge work that goes into creating every single script.
