Shaping the Future in Screenwriting: Industry Day at Catalyst International Film Festival

Following the success of last year’s Screenwriting Industry Day at the Catalyst International Film Festival (CIFF), Catalyst, in collaboration with the National Talent Academy for Film and TV Drama, and with the support of the Writers’ Guild of Ireland, will once again contribute to the “Shaping the Future in Screenwriting” event in 2025.
Curated to highlight the pivotal role of screenwriting in diversifying the industry and promoting representation, Shaping the Future in Screenwriting underscores the importance of facilitating authentic stories. These narratives serve as the foundation for creating dynamic, diverse screenplays and compelling characters.
The Industry Day celebrating screenwriting takes place on Friday, 4th April and will begin with two engaging panel discussions, providing insight into current industry trends and the evolving role of screenwriting in shaping diverse storytelling. This will be followed by a masterclass with acclaimed screenwriter and director Paul Fraser, who will share his expertise, creative process, and experiences from his extensive career. The event will conclude with a networking session, allowing attendees to connect with industry professionals and fellow creatives.
Paul Fraser is known for his authentic storytelling and strong character portrayals. Over a two-decade career, he has collaborated with Shane Meadows on TwentyFourSeven, A Room for Romeo Brass, Once Upon a Time in the Midlands, and Dead Man’s Shoes. He directed My Brothers and has worked on music videos for Arctic Monkeys and Plan B.
Fraser wrote the upcoming sports drama Saipan, set for release this year. The film explores the infamous 2002 Saipan incident between Republic of Ireland player Roy Keane and manager Mick McCarthy, starring Steve Coogan as McCarthy and Éanna Hardwicke as Keane.
