Directed By Her

The GALPAL Collective returns this international women’s month with their annual film festival Directed By Her. The festival will spotlight unique and untold stories, amplifying the voices of women and those from the FLINTA (Female, Lesbian, Intersex, Non-Binary, Trans, and Agender) community.
The festival kicks off on March 26th with the highly anticipated Short Form Programme at the Irish Film Institute. This year’s programme focuses on showcasing the diverse work of women and FLINTA filmmakers. The curated films and music videos explore themes of loss, Irish pride, and girlhood, featuring works by Wolf James, Meghan O’Shaughnessy, Tobi Bello, and more. The event will also include a panel discussion on Black Irish FLINTA actors exploring their careers and experience in the Irish film space.
On March 29th, the festival continues with a workshop at Rua Red, providing a platform for creative minds to connect, learn, and grow. The workshop will focus on self-branding and financial literacy, offering valuable guidance for emerging filmmakers.
The festival will conclude on April 3rd with The Love Witch, a comedy-horror film by Japanese-American director Anna Biller. This screening is part of The Bigger Picture, a monthly initiative by the Irish Film Institute that highlights women in film. The Love Witch offers a unique take on horror and gender, aligning perfectly with this year’s festival theme.
