DLR Mill Theatre to Produce Tara Maria Lovett’s play ‘The Whispering Chair’

DLR Mill Theatre is set to co-produce Tara Maria Lovett’s play The Whispering Chair, through the Mavens Programme, which supports Irish female playwrights.

‘For a number of years, we have fostered a strong relationship with playwright Tara Maria Lovett and welcome this opportunity to further collaborate with Livin’ Dred Theatre Company’ says Artistic Director, Kate Canning.

The Whispering Chair tells the story of a modern marriage twisted and torn by the dark family history of the War of Independence. What terrible deeds were done? By whom? What is left unspoken?


Maud carries her grandmother Aggie’s values, views and resentments.And it is destroying her marriage.But whilst refurbishing a discarded family chair, Maud’s husband Con comes to understand his wife’s troubling ties to the past, and the dark shadow of her grandmother which has shaped her. The poisoned ways of the past have come to haunt the woman of the present. Can anyone survive?

The Whispering Chair is written by Tara Maria Lovett and directed by Bryan Burroughs and is co-produced by Livin’ Dred and dlr Mill Theatre, originally supported by Cavan County Museum.
