Gate Conversations: The Bechdel Fest runs July 22 – August 5 features a short series of events that will explore queer and lesbian culture, both historical and contemporary, curated by journalist and activist Una Mullally.

Gate Conversations is a series of new events that will include post-show Q&As and academic panel discussions featuring production members, lecturers and experts in various fields related to the current production.

22nd July: Same Sex Parental Rights (Panel)

On Saturday, July 22nd on the Gate stage, a panel examining issues around gay parental rights will be hosted by Una Mullally. The panel will explore the current legal situation in relation to same-sex couples and their children and the barriers they face in gaining full legal recognition. The panel will feature MONINNE GRIFFITH of BelongTo, playwright SONYA KELLY, and activist CAROLINE LARKIN.

29th July: The Queer Pen: Writers in Conversation (Panel)

Speaking about their own work in the context of the broader queer canon, the panel will include writer and director STACEY GREGG and KATHERINE O’DONNELL, whose debut novel Slant has just been published by New Island.

The panel will take place at the Gate Theatre at 12:00pm on 29th July 2023. Tickets: €5 (capacity is strictly limited) Book Tickets

29th July and 5th August: The Secret Lesbian and Queer History of Dublin 1

The walking tours, presented by Una Mullally and historian Mary McAuliffe, will start from the Gate Theatre at 2pm and will last approx. 1 hour.
