Creators for Europe United

Screenwriters, add your signature to the Open letter to Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy Virkkunen.
This letter demands:
1. Transparency: Disclosure of all works used for AI training and other purposes
2. Remuneration: Fair payment for the use of creative content
3. Enforcement: Consistent application of existing copyright laws
4. Participation: Involvement of the creative industries in AI regulation
Here is a note from the organisers of this initiative:
What is it all about?
Generative AI systems use millions of creative works – most likely including yours. This is usually done without consent, without transparency and without licensing, i.e. remuneration. At the expense of authors and rights holders, tech companies are generating billions in profits and expanding their power and influence. The entire cultural and creative sector is not only left empty-handed, but so far has no way of scrutinising the AI use of its works and exercising its right to prohibit their use. In the worst-case scenario, creative work will be completely replaced by AI-generated content in the long term. This is why we, as employees of various associations in the cultural and creative industries, have launched the Creators for Europe United initiative.
Why your signature is important?
So far, politicians in Brussels have largely ignored the justified demands of the cultural and creative industries (FSE is actively participating to this effort). With every signature, the pressure on the EU to finally act grows. As individuals, we have little to counter the tech giants – but together we cannot be ignored.
This initiative is not a fight against technological progress. AI can be a valuable tool if it is developed fairly and lawfully. We are simply asking for compliance with basic principles of copyright law that are taken for granted in other areas.
Without your creativity, AI systems would be empty and meaningless. It is time for this contribution to be recognised and respected.
How you can support?
