Anomaly, written by Siobhán Donnellan, had its world premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh earlier today, 8th July. It is the live action debut of director, Bonnie Boyle, a filmmaker whose recent documentary, The Art of Resistance, shot in Palestine has screened worldwide including the Chicago Irish Film Festival in February.

Anomaly tells the story of an unsettling encounter in a maternity hospital waiting room that leads mother-to-be, Nuala, reconsidering what it is she really wants.

As a script, Anomaly was one of only five shortlisted for the Catalyst Film Festival 2024 and subsequently featured as part of the Catalyst International Film Festival Writers Lab 2025. It has also received international acclaim, earning an Honourable Mention at both the Her Vision and Big Apple Film Festivals in New York, alongside a nomination at the Indie Short Fest in Los Angeles.

The stellar cast includes Jacinta Sheerin (Fair City, Red Rock, Obituary), Patrick Ryan (Small Things Like These, Game of Thrones, Red Rock), and Siobhán Donnellan.

Anomaly screened as part of the Goin’ Out West Programme at the Town Hall Theatre, Galway, at 9:45 AM on Wednesday, 8th July 2026.
