Before You Apply for Funding, Ask These Two Critical Questions
Dear wonderful writers,
Chances are that applying for funding is simply a part of your life.
And if you’re applying for a scheme through a producer, here are two fundamental questions you need to ask, and your producer very much needs to know:
- Will I need to sign a contract or a deal memo just to apply?
- When exactly is the application deadline?
And here’s something you need to demand:
- To be sent a draft contract / deal memo WELL IN ADVANCE of this deadline.
This will give you time to properly read the document. It will give you time to consult our contract advisor. It will give you time to request changes if the terms are unfair, or the contract doesn’t adhere to the agreed Industry Guidelines.
We are seeing too many contracts that have been signed in haste, under unreasonable deadline-pressure.
Don’t let this happen to you.
And if you’re curious to know more about the mysterious world of deal memos, contracts, and the Interim Guidelines, we are soon to launch this year’s ScriptBiz – our business skills for writers course.
So, keep an eye on our website and newsletters for how, and when, to apply.
