Human Artistry Campaign – Stealing Isn’t Innovation

Promoting the message that AI systems should not be trained on unlicensed materials.

Shape Advocacy has announced the upcoming launch of a new Human Artistry Campaign initiative, in partnership with the New York Times and other media orgs, “Stealing Isn’t Innovation“. On January 22nd, they will launch print and digital ads (including a full spread in the New York Times) promoting the message that AI systems should not be trained on unlicensed materials.

Some in Congress are considering proposals that would exempt AI training from copyright—letting companies copy your work to generate competing “AI art” without permission or pay.

We can stop it. This year, 1,000+ musicians—including Kate Bush, Damon Albarn, and Annie Lennox—helped defeat a similar move in the U.K. Let’s do the same here.

Stealing isn’t innovation. Using artists’ work without consent or compensation threatens the jobs, culture, and trust that make our art—and our country—thrive.
