Participant Profile:
This masterclass is aimed at emerging directors and writers seeking to enhance their understanding of the drama development process – in particular the creative collaboration between director and writer.

Course Profile:
FÁS Screen Training Ireland and the Screen Director’s Guild of Ireland are seeking participants for “Shaping a Scene – The Creative Collaboration between Director and Writer”.

This half-day masterclass will explore the creative process between director and writer at script development stage. Focusing on feature films, the course will provide directors and writers with insight into successful development techniques and ways to collaborate fruitfully with each other.

Analysing key scenes in a workshop with actors, the masterclass will offer participants the opportunity to observe a director and writer working on a script at an advanced stage of active development.

The course will cover the following:

  • Exploring a scene
  • Understanding tone
  • Rewriting
  • Managing Creative tensions and the journey from script to screen
  • Bringing research to a script

The tutors will be workshopping a current project in development, and will also discuss their previous work and how it has affected their approach to the development process.
