My Environment, My Film

My Environment, My FilmThe Darklight Festival, the European Commission in Ireland and Cultivate have announced the My Environment, My Film: Viral Video Making Competition.

The subject matter should be “Your Environment”, but otherwise the short film can focus on any aspect of the topic, and can be in the form of fiction, documentary or animation.

This competition is open to people of all ages and all experiences.

The Proposition

Make a short film inspired by the title “My environment, my film”.

The Prize

The winning entry will win a state of the art HD Digital camera and have their work screened this October at the 2010 Darklight Film Festival. This is supplied by Tyrell: cct.

The Web

Entries must be uploaded onto any online video hosting site – You Tube, Google Video, Vimeo, etc.  Submit your link, along with your details, on the “Entry” page by the 15th of October.

The Criteria

The winner will not only be selected on the basis of the best film produced, but also by the number of hits their video gets. 75% of the marks for the movie will be given over to creativity and imagination, and 25% for building an audience.

The judges’ decisions are final.

The Workshop

In conjunction with the competition there will be a free one-day workshop on Saturday 28th August, from  12pm – 6pm, in the offices of the European Commission in Ireland, 18 Dawson Street, D2. There will be demonstrations of how to make short films and distribute them online.

This event is free, but seating is limited and allocations will be done on a first-come first-served basis, so register for the workshop quickly.
