Free Your Film

29th July 2010 by Maura McHugh

The Darklight Festival has announced the details of this year’s challenge: Sony Ericsson’s ‘Free Your Film’.

Sony Ericsson are collaborating with Darklight to find three aspiring filmmakers. They’re offering a budget of €3000 to make a short film, which will be premièred on the opening night of the Darklight Film Festival. The films will also be given additional exposure by Darklight and Sony Ericsson.

Darklight will provide invaluable support from their expert guest producer, Katie Holly from Blinder Films. She has produced projects such as The Savage Eye, 100 Mornings and Sensations.

Sony Ericsson will also provide a HD video camera to make the film – a Vivaz, the world’s smallest HD video camera phone – which the filmmakers get to keep.

Applicants should submit their ideas for a short film as a one page outline, which should include information on the theme, style and directorial approach.

Entries must also include a link to a showreel of previous work – links to YouTube/Vimeo/personal website are all acceptable.

The submission deadline is Monday, 23rd August 2010.

The three finalists will be announced a week later on Monday, 30th August, and will have the month of September to shoot their film, which must be submitted for editing by Friday, 1st October 2010.

All information on how to apply is available on the web site.
